Commission Appointment Process
The "Commission Appointment Process" is very important to running the city. Commissions are working groups of residents who focus on different areas of expertise such as Planning and Zoning and Arts in order to help the City Council in different areas. Residents volunteer and fill out an application to join a commission. Our present process is that the Mayor handles the appointments and the City Council has been voting them through in the consent calendar. About a year ago, I become aware of an Idaho Statute that states that City Council Members have the responsibility to advise and approve such appointments: https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/Title50/T50CH2/SECT50-210/
Our process needs to change in order to allow City Council Members the opportunity to give advice on appointments and also the opportunity to vote for or against said appointments.
As an elected official I strive to serve and make sure that we have as much transparency as possible.
